The Discus Soil MBreda is a soil rich in vegetable organic matter. It is a highly porous product with the function of acidifying the water and encouraging biological activity in aquariums.
This product is suitable for aquariums where you want to keep fish in acidic waters, such as Discus and other Amazonian fish. The pH of Discus Soil MBreda is 6.0* (+/- 0.6).
It has cation exchange capacity, CTC, and high porosity for the formation of Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter bacteria, benefiting biological filtration and maintaining crystalline and healthy water for fauna and flora.
Granules for better soil aeration, rich in humic substances that naturally acidify the water, maintain micronutrients for aquatic plants. It can be used in direct contact with the water column without the need for an insulating layer.
The Discus Soil is a product based on vegetable matter which naturally acidifies the water. Because it is a substrate with organic bases, the initial ammonia tendency is normal until bacterial colonization forms. This stabilization period can take up to three months.
*The pH of the Discus Soil is natural, it does not contain "pH buffers" so the final pH of the aquarium will depend on other external factors such as: Alkaline rocks, filter media and hard water. Its ability to acidify is natural and if there are strong alkalis in the aquarium, it will not do its job properly, and in these cases the water may be above 7.0.
Recommendations:
Do not use alkaline rocks and hard water, as they may modify the pH of the aquarium water, rendering the acids of the Discus Soil unusable.
Do the water changes and wait for the natural stabilization time. You can put natural plants that help to consume the initial ammonia.
An acidic substrate has the advantage of serving several species of Amazonian fish that are accustomed to water with excess organic material, such as decaying leaves.
When you want to maintain more demanding plants and complete nutrition with vigorous growth, we recommend using the Discus Soil MBreda in conjunction with the Amazônia MBreda Soil in the fertile layer.
